When we think of baby toys and books, we think big pops of colours and patterns! In Montessori, it is recommended, especially for infants, that we show them real life photos of objects and animals. It's also very important to have books that are not so busy with distracting colours and patterns so that they can be more interested in the objects they are seeing.

When we were first building MJ's library, I wasn't sure where to start looking for Montessori and age appropriate books for her. All the ones I found where either too busy with colours and patterns or it didn't show real life examples of objects and animals.

With some exploring, I found the best books at places like Winners/Homesense and some others on Amazon. I've listed some of our favourite Montessori approved books below and some links on where to find them.

my little learning library: animals

MJ loved this little book set! We would bring one or two of these little books on the go so that she could look at it while we're out. The size of the book was also perfect for her little hands when she was under 18 months.

This book was gifted to use from a friend! I couldn't find this exact book online but I did find this similar book at BookOutlet.ca.

DK: My first words

There are so many versions of "my first words" books but nothing compares to this specific one. This one perfectly follows the Montessori principles. This book shows real life pictures of objects / animals. There is minimal colour variation on each page and it's very easy to follow.

You can find this exact book on Amazon.

Abrams appleseed: Baby loves

Can you tell MJ absolutely loved this book? I've been part of Montessori Facebook groups while I was pregnant and the general consensus was that "Montessori approved" books were hard to find. This book (and collection) was one of the top recommended books in the group. I found this one at our local Winners/Homesense!

You can find other similar great books from Abram Appleseed on Amazon.
